SiteUnseen Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 25, 2026
This policy supplements the shared Miltinson Technologies privacy framework at https://www.miltinson.com/legal/privacy. Where this document is silent, the shared framework applies.
SiteUnseen is operated by Miltinson Technologies LLC, a Washington limited liability company (“we”, “us”). This policy covers what SiteUnseen itself collects. You can browse campgrounds and campsites without an account.
What we collect
| What | Why | Where it is stored | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account details: email address and sign-in identifier. Clerk also holds any name, profile image, password, or social sign-in details you give it. | To sign you in and connect your saved campsites, trip history, and uploads to your account. | Clerk (authentication provider). We keep a copy of your email and Clerk identifier in our database, hosted by Neon. | While your account exists. Deleted when you delete your account (see Your choices). |
| Saved campsites (favorites) | To show your saved campsites on your profile. | Our database (Neon). | Until you remove the save or we delete your account. |
| Trip history: the campsites you open while signed in, and when | To show recently viewed campsites on your profile. | Our database (Neon). | 2 years from each visit, then deleted by a daily cleanup. Deleted sooner when you delete your account. |
| Uploaded photos: the image file (with embedded metadata such as GPS location removed), caption, attribution/source URL, upload time, and, if you choose to post under your account, a link to your account | To show campsite photos to other visitors and credit the source. | Image files: Vercel Blob storage, at a public web address. Details: our database (Neon). | Until the photo is deleted, which also deletes the stored file. Photos hidden by moderation are kept until deleted. Deleted on request; see Photos below. |
| Photo links you submit instead of a file | To display the photo from its original location. | Our database (Neon). | While the photo is published. |
| Visitor ID: a random identifier stored in a cookie | Set only when you upload or vote. Lets you see your own photos while they await review, and counts one vote per visitor. | A cookie in your browser; the same value is stored with your uploads and votes in our database (Neon). | Cookie expires after one year. Stored copies are kept with the upload or vote they belong to. |
| Photo votes (thumbs up or down) and photo reports | To rank photos and surface problem photos for review. | Our database (Neon). Votes are stored with your visitor ID; reports are stored only as a count on the photo. | While the photo exists. |
| Page view counts for states, campgrounds, and campsites | To understand which pages are used. | Our database (Neon), as running totals with no link to you or your device. | Indefinitely, as aggregate totals. |
| Photo and attribution link sent for automated moderation | To screen uploaded and linked photos for inappropriate content before and after publishing. | Anthropic (AI provider) receives the image and the attribution URL you entered. Only the approve/hide decision is stored in our database. | Kept by Anthropic under its API data retention terms. |
| Technical request data: IP address, browser type, requested page, and timestamps | To serve the site, keep it secure, and diagnose errors. | Vercel (hosting provider) request and error logs. | Per Vercel's log retention for our plan. |
| Map tile requests | To draw campground and campsite maps. | Your browser loads map images directly from OpenStreetMap and Esri (satellite imagery), which receive your IP address and the map area you view. | Governed by OpenStreetMap's and Esri's own policies; we receive nothing from these requests. |
We do not show ads, use third-party analytics, sell personal information, or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share personal information only with the service providers listed below, to run SiteUnseen.
Photos
- Uploaded photos are stored at a public web address. Anyone with the address can view the file, including while the photo is awaiting review.
- Before an uploaded file is stored, we remove its embedded metadata, including GPS location, capture date, and camera details. Photos submitted as a link are not copied to our storage; we store only the link, and the original file stays where it is hosted.
- Photos are anonymous unless you choose “Post this upload under my account”. Anonymous uploads are still linked to your visitor ID cookie.
- For automated moderation, we send Anthropic the photo and the attribution URL you entered. We do not send your caption, email address, account, or visitor ID. Anthropic processes this data for us under its commercial terms, which do not allow it to train models on it. We may also review photos manually.
- When we delete a photo, we also delete its stored file. A photo hidden by moderation is no longer shown on SiteUnseen, but its file stays at its web address until the photo is deleted. Email us to have a photo you uploaded deleted.
- Some photos come from other websites. They are credited to their source; see the Terms of Use for how rights holders can have them removed.
Location data
SiteUnseen does not ask for or collect your device’s location. Campground and campsite locations shown on maps come from public data sources. We remove GPS and other embedded metadata from photo files you upload before storing them.
Consumer health data
SiteUnseen does not collect consumer health data as defined by Washington’s My Health My Data Act.
Cookies
- visitor_id: set by SiteUnseen only when you upload a photo or vote on one. Random value, expires after one year. Viewing pages and reporting photos do not set it.
- Clerk cookies: set by our authentication provider to keep you signed in and protect sign-in from abuse.
Both are strictly necessary for features you use, so SiteUnseen does not show a cookie banner. We set no advertising or analytics cookies and use no other browser storage to identify you.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
SiteUnseen does not track you across other websites, so it does not change its behavior in response to Do Not Track signals. We honor Global Privacy Control signals as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information, so every visitor is already opted out.
Service providers
These providers process personal information for us: Clerk (authentication), Neon (database), Vercel (hosting, logs, and photo storage), and Anthropic (photo moderation). Your browser also requests map images directly from OpenStreetMap and Esri. Campground information comes from public sources, including Recreation.gov (RIDB) and Washington State Parks.
Your choices and rights
- Browse without an account; nothing is linked to you.
- Review your saved campsites and trip history on your profile page. Correct your email address in your account settings.
- Unsave a campsite at any time with the Save button on its page.

- Clear the visitor_id cookie in your browser at any time.
Wherever you live, you can ask us to access, correct, delete, or send you a copy of your personal information by emailing contact@miltinson-technologies.com. We may ask you to confirm the request from the email address on your account. We respond within 45 days. If we deny your request, reply to our decision to appeal; we respond to appeals within 45 days.
Children
SiteUnseen is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email contact@miltinson-technologies.com and we will delete it.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards, such as encrypted connections and restricted access to our database and storage. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

When we change this policy, we post the new version on this page and update the “Last updated” date.
